In Vino Veritas – In Wine There Is Truth
The story behind it
“In wine there is truth.” A glass or two loosens the tongue, and people say what they really think. The saying is ancient: the Greek poet Alcaeus wrote of “wine and truth”, and the Roman writer Pliny the Elder noted that truth is proverbially credited to wine. Shown with Bacchus, the Roman god of wine.
