Marcus Aurelius told himself to start each morning with a warning: today I will meet busybodies, ungrateful, arrogant, deceitful and envious people. Yet, he went on, we are made to work together, like feet, like hands, like eyelids, like the upper and lower rows of teeth. Here he sums it up in one line: people exist for one another – so teach them, or put up with them. Our Latin borrows Cicero’s wording of the same Stoic idea.
Details
“People exist for one another. So teach them – or put up with them.” – Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 8.59. Marcus wrote in Greek; the Latin on the design is our own rendering (“homines hominum causa nati sunt: doce ergo aut fer”).
Back print edition: the full design on the back, a small Rome Wisdom laurel emblem on the left chest.

How we check reviews
- Before publishing a buyer’s review, we check the order number against our orders. That is what the “Verified buyer” badge means.
- We publish every genuine review, positive or critical. We only remove spam, insults and personal data.
- We don’t pay for reviews and don’t reward them with discounts. If someone received a product for free as a sample, it says so on their review.
- The rating is the average of all published reviews of this product. Newest reviews are shown first.
